Care Safe Drive
All the hardware you need is a smart phone and phone cradle for the car windscreen. All permission are required then restart app on your phone. This app attempts to detect vehicles using your phone camera and sounds warning if too close or breaking hard ahead etc. With updates, each version attempts to improve its detection rates, its continually being tested on real roads and on computer simulation. The complexity of writing driver assist software that works on a phone is huge and very difficult. Tesla’s got auto pilot but most of us would like an extra pair of eyes while we are driving on motorways, where long distances can make you less responsive and tired. Most vehicles like motor homes do not have the option of driver assist, therefore this app should be helpful. Mainly this app will be used for long distance driving on motorways where it really is useful. You can select day or night mode that both work very well when motorway driving. This app is ideal for long distance driving and will set of an alarm for the following conditions but not guaranteed to work on every occasion but a good second electronic eye:
Car Breaking – this works best in night mode, day mode is dependent on light conditions and phone camera quality but all in all usually works quite well.
Close Proximity – improved works better but vehicle must be close otherwise it gets annoying, this modes been improved.
Cars cutting in close in front of your car on motorway, usually works well.
Cars crossing horizontally, very close for example roundabouts also works well.
Sometimes it picks up people crossing in front of the car but not always.
Lane Control function this needs a good quality top of the range phones to work well.
Works less well on phone that drop frames a lot, usually slower phones. This should be left off on slower phones
Four different mode are auto, motorway, urban and traffic jam. If you are going to do a lot of motorway driving best set to motorway mode.
Before starting your journey adjust sensor to your preferred position. Good approach is to set the bottom sensor line that does not move just inside the lane lines. The further away the sensor is in your lane the quicker the alarm will sound the closer the sensor is to your vehicle, less time before alarm sounds.
The sensor can be moved on the phone screen by pressing on the screen within the camera view area. It is not recommend that you do this while driving because it may cause loss of vehicle control. Please make all adjustments before starting your journey.
False positives, can be reduced by using the correct mode, motorway mode is much more sensitive than urban mode. Motorway mode works well on long straight roads where it can increase sensor awareness, using motorway in an urban environments would just set it off too much. In urban mode expect more false positives.
The bottom of the vertical sensor must be on the road because it reports the colour of the road at all times back to the app.
On the top tool bar there is a share icon next to the three dot pull down menu. Please help promote this app by sharing with a friend. Thank you.
